Meet our Everyday Superheroes

This Series is for all the unsung Superheroes who boldly face what life throws at them & are looking to take on super sporting challenges with their own unique superpowers! Plus, a big shout-out to their trusty Sidekicks who are by their side through thick & thin.

A huge thank you to our below participants for sharing their super story to show that the Superhero Series is for everybody.

Superhero: Finley

Earth years: 8

Hometown: Newport, Gwent

Sporting super-stripes: I love bouncing on my trampoline & spinning, playing football, riding my hoverboard, running, mini golf, swimming & going on my mummy’s “escalator”

Your chosen mission: Last year I completed my Superhero mission of cycling 5k, just two weeks after learning how to ride a bike. My mummy thought it might take a few days, but I did it all in one go.

Why you want to take part: Having a challenge to focus on keeps me motivated to exercise regularly. Completing my first full triathlon gave me an amazing sense of achievement. As part of the veteran community, I also want to inspire other disabled veterans to try accessible sport, especially recumbent cycling.

Your disability & how it challenges you: Having autism can sometimes be challenging, & on hard days I can have meltdowns. I also have FND, which means I can struggle to regulate myself & experience seizures. But I’m determined to push through these challenges & not let them define me. Running & being outdoors has a huge impact on my mood and helps me feel positive

Superhero Series’ lasting impact: The Superhero Series has been a huge part of learning to live with my disabilities. The day itself is an incredible festival of disability sport, & it’s wonderful to see so many people enjoying it with their friends & families. The whole experience is priceless.

Your Superpower: Energy & Positivity

Superhero: Debbie

Earth years: 58

Hometown:Gloucester, Gloucestershire

Sporting super-stripes: I’ve taken on a few fun challenges for great causes: swimming 750m in tough conditions at Triathlon Y Bala 2025 with Team Op Courage (raising £1,000+ for Tom Harrison House), cycling the 45-mile Ride for Ryder & 25-mile RAFA Rides Brize Norton, & tackling Cheddar Gorge last January, mostly for the brilliant ride back down!

Your chosen mission: I completed the Superhero Full Tri in 2023, 2024 & 2025, plus Winter Wonder Wheels in 2023 & 2024, & I’m signed up for the Full Tri again this year.

Why you want to take part: Having a challenge to focus on keeps me motivated to exercise regularly. Completing my first full triathlon gave me an amazing sense of achievement. As part of the veteran community, I also want to inspire other disabled veterans to try accessible sport, especially recumbent cycling.

Your disability & how it challenges you: I live with Hypermobile Spectrum Disorder, dyspraxia, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, IBS & PTSD. These bring challenges including fatigue, balance & coordination difficulties, pain, & sensory sensitivities. I’ve found I manage my disabilities much better when I can keep swimming & riding my recumbent trike.

Superhero Series’ lasting impact: The Superhero Series has been a huge part of learning to live with my disabilities. The day itself is an incredible festival of disability sport, & it’s wonderful to see so many people enjoying it with their friends & families. The whole experience is priceless.

Your Kryptonite: My Kryptonite is how unpredictable my symptoms can be.

Gadget(s) of Choice: My training fins for swimming & my trusty recumbent trike.

Your Superpower: Determination

Superhero: Daniele

Earth years: 37

Hometown: Windsor, UK

Sporting super-stripes:  Part of the Berkshire Banshees Wheelchair Rugby Club’s newly formed 4s team, helping them power their way to winning Division 3 in their very first season.

Your chosen mission: participated in Superhero Tri 2025

Your disability & how it challenges you: Living with HSP (Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia) means walking controlling my legs can be difficult, so my wheelchair is my training partner. Swimming can be challenging too as it’s powered mostly by my upper body, but wetsuits & buoyancy aids help me stay afloat & keep moving forward.

Superhero Series’ lasting impact: Superhero Series has given me the chance to compete in something meaningful & rewarding. I used to watch friends train for marathons & never fully appreciated the commitment, but now I have my own reason to train. It’s given me a whole new outlook on sport & fitness & motivates me to keep pushing myself & staying as fit as I can.

Your Kryptonite: Swimming is my Kryptonite. Without full use of my legs, I rely on my upper body, so it’s the trickiest part of the race & can sometimes mean I’m in the water a little longer than planned.

Gadget(s) of Choice: My Whoop & Apple watch

Your Superpower: My superpower is determination & a competitive streak. I want to show people that disability doesn’t limit what I can achieve. That’s what keeps me pushing myself every time I race.

Superhero: Rubén

Earth years: 48

Hometown: Bogotá, Colombia

Sporting super-stripes:  Colombian National Police veteran turned ultra-distance runner, I thrive on pushing limits. From service to sport, I’ve tested my mind & body — including an 83km, 16-hour challenge through the Chicamocha Canyon — proving that with discipline & determination, there are no limits.

Your chosen mission: participated in 2 Winter Wonderwheels events.

Why you want to take part: I want to take part because I know my story can inspire others. Through sport, I’ve overcome challenges & broken barriers — & now I want to show people that every step forward, no matter how small, can transform your life.

Your disability & how it challenges you: While serving, I survived an improvised explosive device that permanently affected my hearing. Sport became my path to recovery & purpose. Now, as an ultra-distance runner & triathlete in training, I’m determined to show that with conviction, there are no limits.

Superhero Series’ lasting impact: The Superhero Series reminded me that the mind is the real superpower. It’s proof that limits are meant to be challenged, not accepted. Every event pushes me to grow stronger, dream bigger & keep chasing the next incredible challenge.

Your Kryptonite: My mind — it sometimes tries to play tricks on me.

Gadget(s) of Choice: My positive thoughts.

Your Superpower: My military salute.

Your chosen mission: At Home Superheroes 2026

Why you want to take part: Taking part helps me stay strong, positive & focused while supporting my health.

Why you want to take part: To raise money for my Super rugby team & support the sport I love.

Your disability & how it challenges you: My disability is TRIO & VACTERL, medical conditions that affect how the body develops, & everyone experiences them differently.

Superhero Series’ lasting impact: The thing that had the biggest impact on me in the Superheroes series was how accessible the swimming was!

Your Kryptonite: I sometimes need help suiting up & getting out of my Super wetsuit.

Gadget(s) of Choice: My Super wheelchair

Your Superpower: Having my friends who love & support me

Superhero: Carol

Earth years: 47

Hometown: Corby, Northants

Sporting super-stripes:  When I’m not taking on the Superhero Tri, you’ll find me powering through the Silverstone 10k — as an F1 fan, rolling around that track feels Super! I’m always out to prove wheelchair users can smash limits, whether at the gym or at parkrun

Your chosen mission: Superhero Tri 2026

Why you want to take part: After joining the Celebrity Teams and then taking on the Sprint solo last year, I was ready for a new challenge. I wanted to push my limits with a longer swim.

Your disability & how it challenges you: I live with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, giving me constant leg pain, and Functional Neurological Disorder, which affects my left side. I use a wheelchair and have both motor and vocal tics and spasms.

Superhero Series’ lasting impact:  I couldn’t believe how inclusive the event was — I felt accepted exactly as I am and supported to be my best. Sidekick Lynn’s BSL interpretation made everything fully accessible, and everyone was so supportive. I’m already gearing up to return next year for my 40th… and to take on the swim again, this time without the buoyancy wetsuit!

Your Kryptonite: Hot & cold weather

Gadget(s) of Choice: My racing wheelchair which I call “Pheonix”

Your Superpower: Determination and positivity

Superhero: Orange

Earth years: 39

Hometown: Scotland, Ayrshire

Sporting super-stripes: I love martial arts, holding a 2nd Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo, a 2nd Kyu in Judo, & a 9th Kyu in Karate.

Your chosen mission: Superhero Tri 2026

Why you want to take part: To take on my water-fear like a true Superhero, raise vital funds for great causes, power up with the support I need, & share the adventure with my Sidekick Becky.

Your disability & how it challenges you: Wheelchair-powered Superhero with dystonia (muscle spasms), Deaf (British sign language) and autistic. Talking to strangers is tough, my left sides on low power and walking’s not my super skill — but I’m still ready for action.

Your Kryptonite: Open water swim

Gadget(s) of Choice: Wetsuit with a built-in buoyancy!

Your Superpower: Adaptability and perseverance — knowing my limits while still pushing to be the best version of myself!

Superhero: Steph

Earth years: 36

 Hometown: Worthing, West Sussex

Sporting super-stripes: I loved dancing & boxing when I was younger. My previous missions: At Home Superhero series 2025 & Superhero Tri 2025 where my super Sidekicks & I tackled the full event! I can’t wait to dive back in the water next time!

Your chosen mission: Superhero Tri 2026

Why you want to take part: I work for a disabled persons charity & am always championing super inclusive activities, so when this opportunity came up at work to get involved, I jumped at the chance – no hesitation needed!

Your disability & how it challenges you: I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome & PoTS, which keeps me on my toes in some super unpredictable ways. The water was a bit of a wild card for my heart & blood pressure, but I was ready to take on the challenge!

Superhero Series’ lasting impact:  I was super inspired by all the amazing adaptations people had on their bikes & gear – I’m looking into getting one myself.

Your Kryptonite: Deep water.

Gadget(s) of Choice: Wheelchair & hiking sticks – I am keen to get some more adaptive equipment!

Your Superpower: Being a Zebra Warrior!

Superhero: Hazel

Earth years: 47

Hometown: Dover, Kent

Sporting super-stripes: My main sport is running; I have completed 2 London marathons & Superhero Tri powered by Marvel with my amazing guide runners.

Your chosen mission: I completed the full Superhero Tri in 2025!

Why you want to take part: I can't easily cycle, do not have the balance for 2 wheels, so being able to ride a trike for this, my first triathlon, was fantastic as I love a new challenge.

Your disability & how it challenges you: I don’t have the balance to ride a two-wheeled bike, & my eyesight means I can’t cycle on the road. But at the Superhero Tri, in a safe & welcoming environment, I finally got to experience the thrill of completing a triathlon.

Superhero Series’ lasting impact:  I had a fantastic day & looking forward to coming back to Superhero Tri powered by Marvel next year.

Gadget/s of choice: Tomcat trike, could not have competed without it.

Your Superpower: Determination!
