Meet our Everyday Superheroes

This Series is for all the unsung Superheroes who boldly face what life throws at them & are looking to take on super sporting challenges with their own unique superpowers! Plus, a big shout-out to their trusty Sidekicks who are by their side through thick & thin.

A huge thank you to our below participants for sharing their super story to show that the Superhero Series is for everybody.

Superhero: Michael

Earth Years: 38

Hometown: Woking

Sporting Super-Stripes History: Michael is no stranger to the Superhero Tri—this will be his fifth time taking part. He always partners with Jessie from White Lodge, and together they make a great team.

Your Chosen Superhero Tri Distance: Sprint

Why You Want to Take Part: Michael loves being around people and has a big personality with a cheeky sense of humour. The Superhero Tri is a day he looks forward to—it gives him the chance to enjoy the swim and cycle, which aren’t activities he can usually access. It’s a great opportunity for fun, freedom, and connection.

Your Disability & How It Challenges You: Disability: Cerebral Palsy and Peri-sylvian Syndrome, Michael is a naturally upbeat and positive person—ask him how he is, and you’ll always hear “fabulous!” While he does face challenges, especially around transport and accessibility, he approaches life with optimism and good humour.

Your Kryptonite: When his thoughtful ideas are overlooked!

Gadget(s) of Choice: The kayak—it’s a great fit for his energy and enthusiasm.

Your Superpower: His charisma and warm, welcoming smile.


Superhero: Joe

Earth Years: 23

Hometown: Cobham

Sporting Super-Stripes History: Joe is always up for a challenge & takes part in every event he can. A proud Superhero Tri veteran, he’s also completed mini marathons, colour runs & quizzes at White Lodge. He brings energy, commitment, & a big smile to every event.

Your Chosen Superhero Tri Distance: Sprint

Why You Want to Take Part: Joe loves being active & says the Superhero Tri keeps him moving & feeling fitter. He really enjoys the excitement of the day, visiting Dorney Lake, & meeting all the incredible Superheroes who take part. For Joe, it’s not just about sport—it’s about being part of a fun, inclusive community.

Your Disability & How It Challenges You: Joe has a learning disability, but he doesn’t let that hold him back. He approaches life with determination & enthusiasm, & events like the Superhero Tri give him the chance to shine, connect with others, & be recognised for what he can do!

Your Kryptonite: Sitting still! Joe is at his best when he’s active.

Gadget(s) of Choice: The Fun2Go bike - a super way to stay moving & be part of the action.

Your Superpower: Super strength & can-do attitude!


Superhero: Charlotte

Earth years: 9

Hometown: Addlestone

Sporting super-stripes history: Loves a balance bike, a splash and a slightly unsteady sprint!

Your chosen Superhero Tri distance: Sprint

Why you want to take part: To show that she can be a part of a sporting event and feel special

Your disability & how it challenges you:  Charlotte has global development delay and a brain age of approx. 3-4.  She is unsteady on her feet, is pre-verbal and likes things done her own way.

Gadget/s of choice: Paddleboard, balance bike / bike with trailer in case of tiredness, wheelchair buggy

Superhero: Martin

Earth years: 39

Hometown: Sandhurst

Your chosen mission: Superhero Tri powered by Marvel

Your disability & how it challenges you: I have spastic diplegic cerebral palsy, which affects my legs & makes balance & walking more challenging.

Sporting super-stripes: I’ve been practicing martial arts for 25 years. Earlier this year, I received my 5th Dan & the title of Renshi, which means “polished instructor” or “expert.”

Why you want to take part: In 2018, I proudly cycled 5km in the Superhero Tri. This year, I’m aiming for 10 km & hoping to raise even more money for a great cause.

I’ve always loved the amazing atmosphere, both as a Superhero & spectator; so, I’m excited to take part again & give back. I’m fundraising for White Lodge.

This year is extra special for me. It marks 25 years in martial arts, 10 years of teaching, & the anniversary of starting All Abilities Martial Arts. The Superhero Tri is a great way to celebrate while supporting a charity that means a lot to me.

Superhero: Natasha

Earth years: 26

Hometown: Staines

Your chosen mission: Superhero Tri powered by Marvel

Your disability & how it challenges you: I have a learning disability & a speech & language delay, but nothing holds me back!

Sporting super-stripes: This is my fourth Superhero mission, & I enjoy it more every time! I’m passionate about raising money & awareness for White Lodge, & I’m currently gearing up to walk on top of the O2!

Why you want to take part: To raise lots of money & have lots of fun!

Superhero Series’ lasting impact: I love spending time with my friends from White Lodge. I’m always smiling & giggling when I’m there! I also really enjoy cheering everyone else on.

Superhero: Dave

Earth years: 60

Hometown: Bournemouth

Sporting super-stripes: Golf, Bowling, Acoustic Shooting

Your chosen mission: Superhero Triathlon 2024, & Superhero Triathlon 2025

Why you want to take part: I love the sense of achievement & being together with the Bowra family, having fun in a relaxed atmosphere.

Your disability & how it challenges you:

My stroke left me with Right-Side Weakness along with Aphasia and Apraxia and the loss of some vision in my right eye due to optic nerve damage this presents challenges that impact every facet of daily life.  

Superhero Series’ lasting impact:

I've always been an athletic individual, drawn to what many would label extreme sports. To countless people, the Superhero Triathlon embodies just that—an extreme sport, the courage and determination needed to participate can be profoundly affected by injuries like mine.

Your Kryptonite: Swimming & Wetsuits!

Gadget/s of choice: My leg brace is crucial to me; without it, walking would be significantly more difficult. It provides essential stability and enables me to move independently.

Your Superpower: My greatest Superpower are my family and friends.


Superhero: Jason

Earth years: 54

Hometown: Goldsworth Park, Woking

Sporting super-stripes: He’s taken on Superhero Tri powered by Marvel multiple times!

Your chosen mission: Superhero Tri powered by Marvel in August

Why you want to take part: Tp raise awareness & funds for White Lodge (where he has been attending since he was 2 years old!!)

Your disability & how it challenges you:  Jason has Cerebral Palsy effecting his mobility & communication but thanks to White Lodge he’s now able to live independently.

Superhero Series’ lasting impact: |it’s enabed & inspired him to break down barriers!

Your Kryptonite: Poor access to places.

Gadgets of choice: A word board to communicate, a ‘wheelchair transporter’ & his motor chair.

Your Superpower: Independence & passion for White Lodge.


Superhero: Russell

Earth years: 39

Hometown: Windsor

Sporting super-stripes: Completing Superhero Tri three times. I was towed in a dinghy, cycled on an adapted bike & pushed in the run stage

Your chosen mission: Superhero Tri 2025

Why you want to take part: ‘Taking part as part of the White Lodge super fundraising team makes me feel important!

Your disability & how it challenges you: At aged 13 Russell was diagnosed with a rare condition called Ataxia Telangiectasia. It worsened over the years & now affects his mobility & speech. Russell’s Sidekick friends & family play a big role in his everyday activities.

Gadget/s of choice: His SUPER wheelchair & trusted Sidekicks

Your Superpower: His thumbs…. they work perfectly. He can still play with his PS4!


Superhero: Jenson

Earth years: 9 yrs old

Hometown: Bracknell/Berkshire

Sporting super-stripes: Learning to swim independently, walking with sticks and using my trike.

Your chosen mission: Completed the Winter Wonder Wheels Challenge back in Dec 2024 with a 5k lap of Dorney Lake in my custom-made trike. Going to take part in Superhero Triathlon in August 2025. To test all my skills

Why you want to take part: To show other children you can achieve more than your mind thinks you can if you work hard and build your strength.

Your disability & how it challenges you: Living with Posterior Fossa Syndrome and an inoperable brain tumour. I cannot move without super focus and attention as my body does not remember space and rhythm without constant repetition.

Superhero Series’ lasting impact: It’s allowed me to take part and be included with so many other children that understand what a challenge it can be to access sports and have fun. Superhero series has brought the fun back into my life as I try different challenges and improve my skills in sport.

Your Kryptonite: Getting tired too early from the swim and knowing how I will get out of the lake. My body will need two wetsuits to trap the heat. My legs getting wobbly after the cycle.

Gadget/s of choice: K walker, Tom Cat custom trike and DMO orthotic suit to assist my walking. Floating aids for the lake

Your Superpower: Super Grip, once I hold onto something or get something in my head then I will not let go until it is completed. Regeneration


Superhero: Ellyn

Earth years: 10

Hometown: Lutterworth, Leicestershire

Sporting super-stripes: Dancing & a regular Superhero participant

Your chosen mission:  Superhero Tri ’25. Deciding between doing the Sprint or the Half

Why you want to take part: One of her swimming coaches from Everyone Active Lutterworth (Lizzie Wayt) With her SUPER support & a medal on offer, it was a clear yes!

Your disability & how it challenges you: Ellyn has a rare chronic medical condition meaning she doesn’t make her own adrenalin. The results of this means she can’t recover from relatively minor shocks like the fire alarm going off in school or falling over. A serious incident is potentially fatal. She is SUPER cautious & anxious in all unknown situations & gets tired easily. This makes exercise even more challenging. A true Superhero.
